“I can’t think of an adventure,” Lily said, sitting on the porch step.
Mom sat beside her. Happy stretched out near their feet. Dolly rested in the shade.
“Let’s start with one little thing,” Mom said. “What can you notice from here?”
Lily looked across the path. A small leaf had landed beside a much bigger one.
“Those leaves look like a family!” she said.
Mom smiled. “What makes you think so?”
“One is big. One is little. And they’re staying together.”
A breeze moved the little leaf. Dolly lifted her head, and Happy’s long ear fluttered.
Lily giggled. “Now it’s going on an adventure.”
Mom found paper and crayons. Together, they drew two leaves traveling down a pretend path. Lily added a barn, a flower, and two very good dogs.
Happy stayed beside the step. Dolly settled back into the shade. Lily held up her drawing.
“I found my adventure!”
“You noticed the beginning,” Mom said. “Your imagination did the rest.”
