FOR GROWN-UPS · EPISODE 03
Dolly Counts Five Apples
A few easy ways to explore counting together.
The video is coming soon. You can use the everyday activity now.
BEFORE THE STORY
Place a few large, safe objects in a line. Touch each one once.
WHILE YOU WATCH
Notice the apple outside the basket. Keep all five objects visible when you count together.
AFTER THE STORY
Why was counting a line easier than counting a pile?
Make it fit your child
Keep it simple
Start with two or three large objects. Stop when it feels like enough.
Explore a little further
Move the same five objects into a different arrangement. Ask whether the total changes.
Try it in your day
Count five large blocks into a box, moving each only once. Use age-appropriate objects.
Follow your child’s interest. Pointing, talking, drawing, and watching together all count as joining in; there is no score to earn.
